    Mexico Makes Large Road Infrastructure Investments

    Mexico will invest 46.4 billion pesos (USD $2.51 billion) in road infrastructure during 2025, focusing on seven priority locations, six continuity works, artisanal roads, and conservation and maintenance projects. Overall, Mexico’s infrastructure investments should improve highway connectivity throughout the country.

    Gemini Cooperation Network Expects Full Implementation by Q3 '25

    Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are phasing in Gemini Cooperation services, with the new network expected to be fully deployed by Q3 ‘25. Executives have warned customers that operational disruptions and delayed schedules will occur while some old and new services run parallel. Shippers should expect dual-booking issues and schedule disruptions throughout ‘25 and build contingency plans into their supply chains accordingly.  

    • So far, 250/340 vessels have transitioned into the new ocean network 
    • About 75% of Maersk’s new East-West network has been implemented, but there are still some vessels running under the earlier 2M agreement 
    • The new networks require two full cycles from Asia to Europe and back to Asia before they can be fully implemented 
    • Implementation is expected to continue until the end of May ‘25

    Indian Government & DP World Launch Key Trade Initiative "Bharat Africa Setu"

    India’s government (Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the Ministry of External Affairs) and DP World launched Bharat Africa Setu, a transformative trade initiative designed to double India-Africa trade and strengthen South-South cooperation.”   

    Bharat Africa Setu will give Indian exporters access to 53 African countries and 260,000 points of sale through a fully integrated trade ecosystem. They will integrate DP World’s physical infrastructure— ports, economic zones, and logistics parks—with value-added logistics services to create a seamless trade ecosystem between both regions. DP World currently operates 10 ports and terminals, three economic zones, and 200+ warehouses across Africa.

    Trump Pauses Some Tariffs for 90 Days; Increases China's Rate to 125%

    U.S. President Donald Trump is pausing his tariffs regime for 90 days on 75 trading partners who did not retaliate in the hours after it went into effect.

    At the same time, the president said he’s increasing the tariff rate on goods imported from China to 125%, effective immediately.

    U.S. Eliminates De Minimus Parcel Classifications for Low-Value Imports

    U.S. President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order eliminating duty-free de minimis classifications for low-value imports from China, which is set to take effect on 2 May 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.

    • Targets packages <$800 from China and Hong Kong
    • Carriers must report shipment details to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

    The U.S. Secretary of Commerce will submit a report within 90 days assessing the impact and considering whether to extend these rules to packages from Macau.

    U.S. Imposes 10% Sweeping Tariffs

    U.S. President Donald Trump signed an aggressive and wide-ranging “reciprocal tariff” policy, establishing a 10% baseline tariff for all imports into the United States. The plan imposes steep tariff rates on many notable countries:

    • 34% on China
    • 20% on the European Union
    • 46% on Vietnam
    • 32% on Taiwan

    U.S. Enacts 25% Tariffs on Vehicles & Light Trucks

    The Trump administration will impose a 25% tariff on imported passenger vehicles, light trucks, and key automobile parts (engines, transmissions, electrical components, etc.), with processes to expand these tariffs on additional parts if necessary.

    • The tariffs on automobiles will be effective from 12:01 a.m. ET on April 3rd.
    • The tariffs on automobile parts will be effective on the date specified in the Federal Register, but no later than May 3rd.
