USA & China Extend Tariff Truce 90 Days

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that suspends the imposition of higher tariffs for 90 days, until 12:01 a.m. EST on November 10, with all other elements of the truce to remain in place. China’s Commerce Ministry issued a similar pause on extra tariffs.

  • Mexico got a reprieve, and its current rates were extended for another 90 days.

U.S. Imposes Extra 25% Tariff on Indian Goods

U.S. President Donald Trump released an Executive Order (EO), imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian product imports into the U.S., effective 12:01 a.m. ET on August 27th.

  • The purpose of the tariff, according to the White House, is in response to India’s continued import of Russian oil.

U.S. Suspends Duty-Free De Minimis Classification for All Countries

The duty-free de minimis exemption shall no longer apply to any shipment of articles not covered by 50 U.S.C. 1702(b), regardless of value, country of origin, mode of transportation, or method of entry.

The exemption had applied to parcels valued at $800 or less and allowed overseas retailers to ship inexpensive goods to consumers in the U.S. tax-free.

U.S. Applies 50% Tariff to Brazilian Goods

The U.S. has implemented50% tariff on the majority of Brazilian goods entering the country, with these new tariffs set to take effect on August 6, 2025

U.S. & E.U. Reach Trade Deal

Baseline Tariff Rate: Almost all E.U. goods entering the U.S. will be subject to a 15% baseline tariff. The 15% tariff is not added to any existing rates.
  • This applies to approximately 70% of European goods imported into the U.S., including cars, computer chips, and pharmaceuticals.
The 50% U.S. tariff on imported steel will remain.

“The political agreement of 27 July 2025 is not legally binding. Beyond taking the immediate actions committed, the EU and the U.S. will further negotiate, in line with their relevant internal procedures, to fully implement the political agreement,” the European Commission said.

U.S. Reaches Trade Deals with Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines

The tariff rate for goods imported into the U.S. from both the Philippines and Indonesia will be 19%.

  • Indonesia will eliminate approximately 99% of tariff barriers for U.S. industrial, food, and agricultural products exported to Indonesia.

Japan’s existing tariffs will be cut from 27.5% to 15% and duties that were set to take effect on other Japanese goods starting August 1 will also be cut from 25% to 15%.
