Global Trade Shifts to Watch 🌐📦📊
Global trade is moving fast, and several new developments are reshaping decisions for supply chain leaders right now:
🇮🇳 India steps up its maritime ambitions
Major investments are underway across ports and shipbuilding, along with the launch of Bharat Container Shipping Line with a 51-vessel fleet focused on carrying more of India’s own trade.
🇺🇸 U.S. and China ease tensions temporarily
Tariffs have been reduced from 20% to 10% and both countries have paused reciprocal port fees for one year as negotiations continue.
🌎 Panama Canal prepares for next-generation capacity
A multibillion-dollar expansion effort is underway, including new terminals designed to increase throughput and long-term corridor resilience.
🇲🇽 🇻🇳 Mexico and Vietnam gain momentum
U.S. importers continue diversifying away from China, with ASEAN countries such as Vietnam and regional neighbor Mexico capturing a growing share of U.S.-bound trade.
🌍 China expands influence in global ports
China now has involvement in more than 90 deepwater ports worldwide, reinforcing its reach across critical maritime trade lanes.
🇺🇸 New U.S. truck tariffs now in effect
A 25 percent tariff on imported medium- and heavy-duty trucks is adding cost pressure and affecting fleet planning for many carriers.
These shifts are redefining routes, risk, and cost structures across global logistics and reinforcing the need for proactive planning.

U.S. Uses Section 232 to Impose Tariffs on Medium- and Heavy-Duty Trucks
On October 17, 2025, the Trump Administration issued a proclamation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act to impose a 25% tariff on imports of medium- and heavy-duty trucks and truck parts, effective November 1, 2025. The proclamation also establishes a 10% tariff on imports of buses, including school buses, transit buses, and motor coaches.

What if #packaging could do more than protect products? What if it could shape how your supply chain performs?
A global bike and apparel brand came to us with ambitious sustainability goals, rising costs, and inconsistent materials across markets. They didn’t just need new packaging. They needed a smarter approach that could evolve with their business.
The results speak for themselves:
• 26% reduction in packaging costs
• Centralized, sustainable sourcing with full PRSL compliance
• Consistent brand presentation in every market
• A program designed to scale as they grow
It’s proof that when you treat packaging as part of your supply chain strategy, it becomes a powerful driver of efficiency, sustainability, and long-term success.
Global Trade Shifts to Watch 🌐📦📊
India is investing more than $7.8 billion to modernize its maritime sector, including new port terminals, multimodal logistics hubs, and revitalizing domestic shipbuilding capabilities.
As of October 14, 2025, the U.S. Trade Representative has implemented new port entry fees on vessels linked to China, adding compliance pressure for shipping lines and operators. Vessel owners are now responsible for determining liability, with CBP handling collections.
The Panama Canal Authority is planning more than $8 billion in strategic investments over the next decade, including roads, terminals, water reservoirs, and energy pipelines to secure its future as a critical trade corridor.
Mexico and Vietnam, two major hubs for indirect trade into the United States, are seeing a surge in Chinese investment and export activity, signaling deeper supply chain diversification ahead.
The global trade landscape is shifting fast, and these developments could redefine routes, costs, and strategies across the logistics industry.
