Reliable service for a just-in-time manufacturer

Case Studies

Challenge

stow, a large just in time manufacturer of warehouse supplies and equipment (industrial racks, pallets, etc.) had a multi-stage initiative requiring direct project management and dependable customer service.

For context, just-in-time production, or JIT manufacturing, is an inventory management strategy that aligns raw-material orders from suppliers directly with production schedules. It is a production model in which items are created to meet demand, rather than being created in surplus or in advance of demand. Just in time manufacturers rely heavily upon logistics companies to provide reliable pickup and delivery services!

Solution

OIA Global helped stow group move unfinished warehouse racks from a vendor partner’s manufacturing plant in Valley City, OH, to a second vendor’s facility across town. Transportation needed to be quick and required multiple flatbeds per day.

Next, OIA’s team moved the warehouse racking to a construction site in Lebanon, IN, for final installation. Unfortunately, the third-party construction company completing the installation didn’t have designated storage facilities, so expediency was critical to avoid idle labor costs and delayed production schedules.

Benefits

  • Increased transport options due to OIA Global’s advanced 3GTMS system and deep carrier networks
  • All involved parties were managed on the customer’s behalf
  • Identified multiple flatbed carriers that could work under tight constraints

During phase one of the project, OIA Global successfully managed 85 full flatbed shipments over two months. Phase two began in August 2023 with roughly 100 more flatbed shipments.
